James and Christina are Getting Married

Thursday, February 26, 2009

On May 30th, 2009, Christina and James are getting married.

This couple is faced with some tremendous odds - finishing school, incomes, uncertainty of living. But despite all that, they are joining lives because of the love of the One who brought them together.

Christina and James inspire me. They are adventurous. Courageous. They are among those whose lives personify the example of modern heroism.

Thank you both for allowing me to share this most special time in your lives.

I watched the weather all weekend. I didn't know if the weather would hold out for the engagement shoot with James and Christina on Sunday afternoon. Fortunately, this couple is quite brave; studying linguistics and hopefully off to Africa or New Guinea sometime in the next two years. That is quite a life together! Between scattered showers and some intense cloud action, we hit Battle Ground for a fantastic hour and a half of engagement photos!

Hold your breathe for the rest of the fabulous pictures of this wonderful couple in their Getting Married movie!

Oh, and don't forget to take advantage of the "Give Back" discounts for this March and April season - at 30% off all packages, you don't want to miss this!

Season Rates

Monday, February 23, 2009

Hello Everyone!

This past weekend I spent quite a bit of time with my family. My brother Daniel had a performance for piano, where we took a few moments to do a super cool portrait of this super cool pianist. Then, on Saturday night we went to my siblings quartet performance [The Dickson String Quartet] with their orchestra [OPAYCO]. I took some pictures there also for their blogs.

On account for the horrific economic times, I'm offering a "Give Back" special on weddings and portraits. For the months of March and April, all bookings will be 35% off. I know. I think I'm crazy. But we all are in this crisis together, and I figure, if I love to shoot, I should help you to have beautiful portraits that you love - and besides that, we'd have a blast together!

So, on any emails you shoot me about bookings, just mention that you'd like the "Give Back" rates. And we'll help each other through this time.

Blessings!

Jess and Jared are Getting Married

Saturday, February 21, 2009

I met Jessica ten years ago exactly. I was fourteen years old sent to a music camp for a month. First time away from home and I was determined to do things right. That's where Jessica and I met. After hearing we were both from the same state, we became fast friends.

Since that time, we've only seen each other a handful of times. Her graduation. A visit to my house. And now our lives will be reunited with the photography for her engagement and wedding.

When it all boils down to one thing, this is what I have to say: Jessica and Jared are the perfect couple. Fun. Deep. Rooted. Best friends. Who doesn't want that? The two hours we spent together felt like a fun day out between old friends.

Congratulations Jessica and Jared.

I can't wait till your wedding!

So...I've decided that Engagement portraits can't get much better than this. Caught between a day of snow and a day of rain, I met up with Jessica and Jared in Centralia Washington. Boy, did we have fun! Thank you Jessica and Jared for such a fabulous day!

Watch out for their upcoming slideshow movie!

So, here it is! The movie of Ashley's portrait session!

Isn't it fun that we live in an age that we can do pictures and mulitmedia?

Blessings!

My baby sister is now a fabulous, grown up young woman. At 18 [almost 19 mind you], she is an incredible violinist who holds together a quartet with 3 of her brothers [saint-hood status, yes, I know]. She's been studying for her ACT to show herself worthy of the school giving her a full ride music scholarship next year - at the University of St. Louis at Missouri.

This last Sunday, we took advantage of the gorgeous shooting weather - i.e. overcast skies - to take her senior portraits after church. Our conversation on the way to the park was as follows:

C - So, you never told me what you wanted to have your portraits "feel" like.

A - Uuuuummm...what do you mean?

C - Well, you know. Like a music piece. There's gentle. There's strong. There's fast and upbeat...

A - Gentle. Soft. But artistic.

C - [After looking at her church outfit]. Hmmm. Ok. So, gentle in a forest with your church outfit. [I could pull the pictures together, but the combo was a little, well, interesting at best].

A - [Giving me a raised eyebrow] I brought my duffel full of clothes.

C - Oh. Ok then! This will work great!

;-)

And here's to gentle, flowing, artistic senior portraits of a beautiful and talented girl.

My little sister Katherine is Miss Precocious herself. Full of personality and character, she is a newly turned 8 year old. We went out on her birthday for a little Starbucks time. And had a blast.

25 Years

Thursday, February 5, 2009

Yesterday my family celebrated my parents 25th wedding anniversary! In a day when more than 48% of couples are divorcing within a few years of marriage, I think this is a pretty significant day!

To spread the celebratory cheer, we went to a fabulous dinner at the Oliver Garden [one of my favorite places!], and then headed outside to take some pictures in the perfect evening light!

After growing together for so long, I noticed for the first time how comfortable my parents are with one another. They are friends. They are cheerleaders. They are lovers. In just a few days, my parents are giving me the honor of photographing them in their original wedding attire! How many photographers can boast of this?!?

But until then, here is a little peek of the celebration...

The family picture of the day! Wow! We are quite a group!!!

It has been 25 adoring years together.

After all this time they still know how to play... ;-)

...And love...[btw, the dip was my dad's idea. lol].

Congratulations Mom and Dad! May you be blessed with many, many more years together!
