Giving Back to the Community

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

As many of you know, I work with an organization called Revolutionary Media. We call our selves
"philanthropic artists", who use our art to give back to the community and help in ways that others cannot. This month, I am working on a multimedia piece for a group in Battle Ground called Avonlea Acres. It is a transitional home for unwed mothers. Not only does Avonlea give the girls a place to stay, the qualified staff helps train these young women to be successful, productive, and self sustaining mothers.

I am really excited about this piece and believe it will be a fantastic opportunity to raise support for a really worthy cause.

Last Saturday I spent 6 hours at Avonlea, taking pictures for our multimedia piece. I also took portraits of the young women who are now staying there. This portrait is of Vanessa, a young woman who is studying to be a cosmetologist. And as an extra little fun tidbit, she is also a fabulous sketch artist.

Will keep you all updated on the project as it progresses!

Brice and Ben's Book!

Thursday, March 26, 2009

It came! It finally came!

Brice and Ben's book arrived today. I am so very excited! It turned out gorgeous [as they always do of course. lol.].

It's always with a bit of nostalgia that I wrap up the end products for a wedding. The editing, the film, the book...when it's all done, I honestly cannot wait for the next wedding to come my way!

Fortunately for me, I will have a plethora of jobs between now and my next wedding, including a family shoot, a glamor shoot, and some multimedia projects with Revolutionary Media.

Today is the day that I can gladly proclaim:

I love my job.

;-)

I hope you have a fabulous day also!

Book Review!

Monday, March 23, 2009

So, a few days ago I was contacted by a press agent for Amphoto because of my work for dps [digital photography school online.]. She asked if I would be willing to review a new book released by Amphoto on wedding photography. Of course, I was happy to.

And in the end, I received a complimentary copy of the beautiful book - Wedding Photography Unveiled by Jacqueline Tobin. Check out dps within the next couple of days for the review!

In the meantime, I must confess that the gray Portland weather has left me a little lathargic. Of course, this doesn't mean we were unproductive - not by any stretch of the imagination! I have two two photography books ordered [one from Brice and Ben's wedding, the other from Dear World], two new designs of business cards soon to come to my mailbox, and a plethora of other current projects.

Hopefully, we'll see spring soon. Cold, dreary, and wet does not do much for energy and motivation...

Yesterday I finally completed the order for Ben and Brice's photo book! I particularly loved the cover for their book, so I thought I'd share it with you all!

Have a great day!

Giving Back to the Community with Photo's

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

What I love most about being a photographer is possessing the ability to give back to the community with my skills and knowing it will make a difference. Such is the case with a project that I and my shooting associate Jocelyn are about to crusade.

Christian Family Adoptions is one of the premier adoption agencies in Oregon and Washington. In December I was contacted by a woman who is now a foster mother. She works with CFA and expressed a vision for using creative media to move and impact the foster and adoption realms.

Jocelyn and I met to discuss this project last night, and are pleased to say, we're going for it!

More to come soon!

Ben & Brice: I Thee Wed

Sunday, March 15, 2009

They met less than one year from the day they were married. Both raised in a small town where almost everyone knew everyone else, Ben and Brice met as two passionate Christians who wanted to show the love of Jesus to all they met. It seems like this focused intensity was a magnet that drew them to one another.

On March 1st, I had the priviledge of spending a mere 12 hours of my life with Ben and Brice to record their special day. To date, it was the most beautiful, most enjoyable wedding I have attended. But more than that, I can truly see how this union has, and will continue to give Jesus immense glory and pleasure.

I hope that one day my life can say the same.

Ben and Brice, I wish you all the happiness in the world, and a lovely life together in Jesus.

Ben and The Guys

Friday, March 13, 2009

Taking portraits of 18 formally attired, high energy men is, in a word, an absolute blast. Set on the stage of the local library, we had a backdrop of incredible strength and artistry. The cloud action threatened to let loose, but it held out until we were on our way back to the girls...

Here's just a peek at what we came back with. ;-)

Oh - and be watching for the movie of Brice and Ben's wedding day...it should be out Sunday!!!

Tata!
